Can creditors continue to call me to collect after I file?
No. As soon as you file for bankruptcy, an injunction is immediately put in place that bars creditors from calling you. This is known as the Automatic Stay.
Creditors are free to petition the court to allow them to be exempt from the Automatic Stay, but, for the most part, all creditors must comply until the court says otherwise. Creditors who ignore the Stay and attempt collections anyway are subject to sanctions and being held in contempt of court.
